Klugschnacker

Everyone knows the word. One doesn’t. They talk along anyway.

Klugschnacker is a party game for three to eight players. A board shows 16 words on one topic, one of them is the secret. Everyone knows it, except the Klugschnacker. Each player says one word about it, then everyone votes on who was only pretending.

What’s a Klugschnacker?

North German for a know-it-all: someone who has something to say about everything, whether they know about it or not. In the game it’s a role. You probably know one in real life, too.

Three ways to play

Around the table

Everyone uses their own phone and keeps their card secret. You say your words out loud, the app runs the round and keeps score.

Over the radio

Everyone is somewhere else. You record your word as a short voice message, the others play it back as often as they like.

Pass the phone

Only one of you has the app? Then the phone goes round the table. Works without internet, too.

How a round works

  1. 1

Everyone looks at their card. All cards show the word, one says “Klugschnacker”.

  2. 2

Each player says one word about it. Too precise helps the Klugschnacker. Too vague makes you suspicious.

  3. 3

Everyone votes on who the Klugschnacker was.

  4. 4

Caught? Then they get one guess at the secret word. If they’re right, they still score a point.

What’s different

Most imposter apps run on a single phone and use a single word. In Klugschnacker everyone has their own card, and the Klugschnacker sees a board to search for the word. Bluffing gets easier, catching them gets harder.
